Boilio Day Out to Wales
Summer Solstice Ride – Sunshine, Storms, and Scenery
Date: June 21st
Location: North Wales
Riders: Toby, Caroline & Me
A Scorching Start
The summer solstice delivered in full force this year—an absolute boiler of a day, hitting 33°C. The sun was relentless as we set off, but the heat didn’t dampen our spirits. In fact, it made the ride feel even more like a celebration of the season.
A Welcome Storm
Halfway through the ride, the skies opened up with thunder and rain. Surprisingly, it was a relief. The cool down was just what we needed, and it added a bit of drama to the day—one of those moments that sticks in your memory.
Familiar Roads, Timeless Joy
We’ve ridden these roads more times than we can count, but they never lose their magic. The scenery is breathtaking, the routes are a joy to ride, and the stops along the way are always worth it. We’re incredibly lucky to have all this right on our doorstep.
One day, when we look back on these blog posts and can no longer ride, we’ll be so grateful for the times we did. These are the days that make life rich.
The Perfect Finish
We wrapped up the ride with a pint at the GL and a delicious Tava curry—simple pleasures that hit the spot after a long day in the saddle.
A Moment in Time
As I write this, Caroline and I are sitting at number 2 Strathalyn. We’re here temporarily after a devastating house fire forced us out of our home. It’s a quiet Sunday afternoon. Music is playing, a cold beer is in hand, and we’ve just returned from another pint at the GL.
It’s one of those reflective moments—bittersweet, but full of gratitude. Despite everything, we’re still riding, still enjoying the little things, and still making memories.
Stanley’s Step – A Lazy Afternoon
Stanley is stretched out on what we now fondly call “Stanley’s Step.” At 12 years old, he’s still absolutely amazing. He may be slowing down a little, but his bouncy enthusiasm hasn’t faded one bit.
He’s just returned from the pub, where—true to form—he soaked up all the attention. Positioned perfectly in the “line of strokeage,” every passerby heading to the restaurant gave him a scratch. He’s truly earned his title as the pub dog, right alongside Barney.
Chillin’ in the Heat
Not bad for (nearly) 62 and 58! Mr. & Mrs. C enjoying a relaxed afternoon in the warmth. There’s a hint of thunder in the air and the occasional threatening raindrop, but we’re not convinced it’ll come to anything.
The hair might be looking a little greyer these days—but let’s be honest, it’s still “mousey”… it’s just the light playing tricks. Honest! 😂😂😂
And as always, Mrs. C is looking absolutely stunning. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beer of the Year? We Think So! 🍺
We’ve swapped and changed our favourite beers over the years, but 2025 might have a clear winner. The Alyn has started serving this particular brew, and it’s absolutely gorgeous—smooth, refreshing, and full of character.
We loved it so much, we decided to track it down and buy some from Albi’s. Definitely one to keep stocked in the fridge this summer!
